History: This was the first new loco bought by the railway - for £1200 ! Although it seemed to be just a small saddle tank loco, it was the heaviest and most powerful to run on the line. The local Mercury newspaper on 13 June 1908 reported “Another fine engine has been placed upon the Clevedon and Portishead Light Railway and is named The Walton Park. The engine is a new one, painted in the same colours as those of the Midland, and is the most powerful the company possesses. It ran its first trip on Tuesday and has since been placed on the regular service where it has arrested some amount of attention because of its smart appearance.” It was transferred to another of Colonel Stephen’s lines, the Plymouth, Devonport & South Western Junction Railway in 1912 because it was too heavy for the WC&PR. It was later transferred to the Shropshire & Montgomeryshire Railway, then to the East Kent Railway in 1917. The EKR sold it in 1940. This was the last WC&PR loco to be scrapped. A model kit is available for this loco. |
